Hodge-Podge of Topics

Dear Julie,

I regret to inform you that our blogging skills have been impugned. It has been suggested that we are lame in our blogging follow-through. Although, on further review, I believe I am being singled out for my particular lameness, as evidenced by the fact that you out-blog me (in content and volume) here at Posts From The Edge. I scoff (HA!) at this accusation since it was hurled by one who receives actual monetary reimbursement for writing things that people actually read. I mean, really....who are we hurting if we fall off the blog-wagon for days (week...or months) at a time? It's not as it actual people are hanging on every word posted here. Right? (Of course right.)

Now, about your son...I chortled when I read on your other blog that he told you, "I'm working on a Natalie tripping-device and it's almost done." What a nefarious little fiend you have in the making. I told Jim about it and he likened Ethan to Calvin (of Calvin & Hobbes fame). I quite like that comparison. If he starts to build a transmogrifier out of a cardboard box, run. Run like the wind! Although I suppose he could actually transmogrify you into a Mommy Dog.

New topic.
Why is it so darn cold this late in May??? Maybe there's something to this global warming, after all.

Love,
Karen

PS: Did you know our parents bought a trampoline today?! I wonder if they make trampline bras??? Must look into that....

Proving Yet Again That She Is One of Us

Dear Karen-

So yesterday Natalie and I were doing her schoolwork and without actually using the word "synonyms," we worked on the concept that sometimes we can use different words that essentially mean the same thing. Her task was to think about the word "big" and see if she could come up with different words that meant "big." The lesson manual had a few listed, in case the child needed prompting...giant, large and huge.

To my delight, Natalie skipped right over those and went for these big guns:

-gigantic
-humongous
-colossal

We loves her.

Love,
Julie

Saving it for posterity

Dear Karen-

This is just a quick note with one of those "could my kid be any cuter?" things. So today we were outside and Ethan was looking at everything in the flower beds. There's quite a large dandelion out there that will open soon. Ethan looked at it and the flowers and said,

"This is gonna kabloom soon, right?"

I might have to use "kabloom" from now on. "Why yes, my flowers are doing well...the Stargazer lily is about to kabloom and the hibiscus should kabloom in a few weeks..."

Julie

The Survey Says.....

Dear Julie,

Yes, Betty Broderick tops my list. But.....I can't get enough "Family Matters." Especially later in the series when Laura falls in love with Steve Urkel. Unfathomable, I know.

I'd also have to say...The Reader's Digest. Or The Digest (as I like to call it).

How dorky am I, anyway???

Love,
Karen

And Now I Have To Ask You

Dear Karen-

I just did an entry over on my blog and I need to you take a moment to look at it - then come back here and reply. If you really loved me, you would leave me a comment there AND reply back to me here, but it's optional. I won't think less of you if you don't respond in both places because, as you already know, I couldn't possibly think any less of you.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sorry to any readers out there...it's a joke.

Anyway, I strongly suspect your answer would tend toward...yes...altogether now...A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story. You know, I haven't seen that on Lifetime in quite some time.

So is that what you would go with? Or do you have some other gem that you've been saving? It doesn't have to be TV/movie related.

Love,
Julie

It's Working

Dear Karen-

I'm seeing promising signs that we are training Natalie well. For instance, last night we were getting ready to go to our church Community Group meeting and I reminded her to use good manners and to speak if someone spoke to her. Then Greg reminded her that Mr. Ryan (Ryan Bult, he's our leader) is very silly and would probably call her Cutie or Pretty Girl. A few minutes later she looked at me and said, "I like it when people think I look cute. It makes me feel like the most important person in the world."

Then today, Natalie was pretending that she was going to have a party and informed me that these are the rules for getting ready for any party:

1. make sure your hair looks beautiful or handsome
2. have a pretty dress
3. you need great shoes

She's well on her way.

Julie

The Slowskys

Hey, Chicken --

Have you seen those Comcast commercials with Bill & Karolyn Slowsky? You know, the DSL turtles? They make me laugh out loud every time I see them. I love the Sudoku one..."and do Sudoku." (I'm giggling out loud right now just thinking about it.) Anyway, here's one I haven't seen before -- it's about lava & a Hawaiian vacation. Check it out!

Have a good day. I'm off to Kankakee. (sigh)

Karen

Never too old to be creative

Dear Karen-

Here's proof that it's never too late. Clearly, these people experience The Urge.

Apparently there has been a documentary done about these fine folks. I'd quite like to see it.

Julie

Waiting for The Urge...

Dear Julie,

I have simply been waiting for The Urge to strike me. (Yes, I do read your blog.)

Why is it we can't keep up the Blog Mo??? I've had three haircuts, seen six movies, flown four times and written six checks since my last post. (All of a sudden, this sounds like a confession: Forgive me, Sister -- for I have not posted.)

I talked to your Mother tonight. She said Natalie lost another tooth (how cute!), but the remarkable news was that your Dad actually called her back on the telephone. Who knew he could actually PLACE calls?!?! Maybe it's just taken him all these years to figure out how those opposable thumbs work. Good boy, Dad!!!

Have you seen Mom's pots and pans lately? They are seriously 3rd World. It was very difficult to cook on them Sunday night. I'm sure we all consumed a fair share of non-stick coating with our eggs. MUST get her new cookware soon. I know it's not a glam gift, but Mother's Day is coming up none too soon for Neena.

Hey, did I mention that I've been using the Ped Egg (as seen on TV)? It's FABULOUS!!! I've been following that up morning & night with a liberal application of some Miracle Foot cream (perhaps seen on TV at some time). You won't recognize my feet!!!

Holla back!

Love,
Your Sister

OK, seriously.

Dear Karen-

January?? You have not responded to my last post, which was in January. I would like a response now.

It's a good thing I didn't hold my breath back when I wrote that last post...I'd have keeled over.

Love,
Julie

P.S. I actually used the phrase "fixin' to" in casual conversation a few days ago and didn't even realize it until I completed the whole sentence.

Papa, Can You Hear Me?

Dear Karen-

I love that toy manufacturers have caught on to the fact that not everyone in this country is Caucasian. I think it's only right that baby dolls and Barbie's should come in a variety of skin tones. I do wish they came in a variety of sizes, but perhaps that will come in the future. Imagine my surprise, though, to discover these - available from Target online:
The Torah Set and Shabbat Set! There is also a Passover Set and a Rosh Hashanah set.

I doubt you can get a dress-up Hasidic Suit set, complete with side curls, though. Perhaps that, too, will come in the future.

L'Chaim!
Julie
